Geoffrey Plantagenet. by RowanLewgalon Geoffrey Plantagenet. by RowanLewgalon
It's Geoffrey again - and this time I definitely like the picture and it looks like him.
My first attempt is here: [link]

Geoffrey II, Duke of Brittany and Earl of Richmond (23 September 1158 – 19 August 1186) was Duke of Brittany between 1181 and 1186, through his marriage with the heiress Constance. Geoffrey was the fourth son of King Henry II of England and Eleanor, Duchess of Aquitaine it says. I always think that he was older than Richard, though.

He was brother to William, Count of Poitiers (who died as a baby), Henry the Young King, Matilda, Duchess of Saxony, Richard I of England, Leonora of Aquitaine, Joan of England and John I. of England.

Geoffrey was a good friend of Philip Augustus of France, and the two statesmen were frequently in alliance against King Henry it says. Geoffrey spent much time at Philip's court in Paris, and Philip made him his seneschal.

Geoffrey died on 19 August 1186, at the age of twenty-eight, in Paris. There are two versions of his death. The more common first version, is that he was trampled to death in a jousting tournament. At his funeral, a grief-stricken Philip was said to have attempted jumping into the coffin. Roger of Hoveden's chronicle is the source of this version; the detail of Philip's hysterical grief is from Gerald of Wales.

Oh, he was brother of King John and father of poor little prince Arthur who was killed by John. He looks very beautiful. I love the picture.

And is was never proved that Arthur was really killed by John or anyone else.

:)

I wonder what happened to Arthur then? I love these historical mysteries, like the Princes in the tower.

That makes two of us. :)

I don't know...but it is certain that Hubert de Burgh, Justiciar of England and Ireland aaaand 1st Earl of Kent who first claimed to have delivered Arthur around Easter 1203 to agents of the King sent to castrate him and that Arthur had died of shock later said that this was a lie and that Arthur was set free without any harm done to him.

Yes I read of that, its in Shakespeare as well i think. who knows maybe he became a hermit. i wish I had a time machine for these things. I am always intrigued by the sad story of poor edward Earl of Warwick who was beheaded on order of Henry 7th even those he was mentally retarded. :(

Oh i love the Plantagenets, Margaret who Henry 8th hacked to death is one of favourites too, she became a Saint. Oh yes do some blogs on it I would love it. I one day plan to write about Edward the learning disabled Prince who was beheaded, I took him to heart and made up stories about him and Perkin Warbeck and their friendship whilst being held as prisoners.
